WORKPLACE VIOLENCE: AWARENESS AND PREVENTION


COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is intended to assist those who wish to better understand the complexities of workplace violence as well as individuals and groups of people who are responsible for or who wish to establish workplace violence prevention initiatives at their work or agencies. This is much more than a planning course, although planning is certainly a part of what is being taught here. Many of the selections provide information that can be helpful for rank and file employees as well as managers and specialists as you deal with issues ahead of time with the hope of preventing workplace violence. This course reflects research and contributions from many professions.


AUTHOR'S BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION
Kenneth E. Mills, PhD, is founder and President of Alliance for Philippine Missions, and is a missionary to The Philippines where he has served since 1982. In 2004, he founded the Manila Counseling Center, a private-practice, Psychological Counseling Service, where he serves as the Executive Director and cognitive-behavioral therapist. His cross-cultural experience with urban stress and workplace violence makes him a sought-after motivational speaker. He is also the Executive Director of Starshine Management & Consultancy, and, Safe Place Manila, an advocacy organization for the rescue and betterment of indigent street children.

He attended Gardner Webb University, is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and holds advanced degrees from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, North Carolina, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky and The University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.


OBJECTIVES
Recognize and easily use basic vocabulary terms and definitions appropriate to a deeper understanding of preventing violence in the workplace.

Comprehend important general facts that will lead to a better understanding of the need for preventing violence in the workplace.

Define and understand the four categories of workplace violence.

Provide the basic steps to address the need for practice, guidance, planning, preparation, team building and dealing with disruptive situations.

Develop competency in developing a program through the work of a planning group to address the issues of the prevention of workplace violence.

Understand the four crucial steps in the planning process to prevent workplace violence: analyzing, filling the gaps, writing policies for reporting incidents, and writing plans to respond in the event of workplace violence.

Comprehend other practical ways to prevent violence in the workplace.

Develop the ability to observe and better understand individuals prone to violence.

Understand how psychopathic bullies affect the workplace and how to deal with them.

Learn to understand and trust intuitive apprehension when in the presence of a growing potential for violence.

Have a commitment to organize or to become involved in a Workplace Violence Prevention Team in the workplace.

Think critically and respond to actual cases where preventing violence in the workplace skills learned in the course would have been useful.

All persons in business leadership positions, such as managers, administrators, law enforcement, medical professionals, attorneys, allied health professionals, military and students.

DURATION
This course is self-paced; however, all course requirements must be completed within 6 months of enrollment.


PRESENTATION METHOD
This online course is presented in a downloadable PDF format and may include media files, (student may be required to download free corresponding media players.) Course content format may also include assignments, case studies, multiple choice and/or true or false statements.


TEACHING METHOD
This is a downloadable self-paced home study course. Interim key point prompts are included throughout the course to highlight and reinforce vital information. The Multiple-Choice course examination will be taken online after completion of all other course requirements.


METHOD OF COURSE GRADING
Pass/fail grading system. Course examination is multiple choice. When a score of less than 70% is received, the examination may be taken one time without charge. For further information regarding additional retakes of the examination, contact amerforensi@linkline.com


METHOD OF COURSE EVALUATION
After successful completion of the course study and examination with a passing score of 70%, an evaluation shall be completed and submitted to amerforensi@linkline.com


CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION
Upon completion of the course study, examination with a passing score of 70% and evaluation, the student will receive a Certificate of Completion via email.

Course instructions consist of readings, videos and links which are incorporated in the course.
